What I Wish I Knew Sooner

Dear Younger Me,
Life as a teen isn’t as easy as you might imagine. There will be stressful, overwhelming days where it feels like no one can help, and sometimes, that’s the truth. You’ll have to face some challenges on your own, and that’s okay. You’ll meet more amazing friends along the way, but don’t forget to stay focused. Please don’t procrastinate on schoolwork… Seriously, it piles up fast. Take the time to understand what’s being taught instead of just going through the motions. I used to love learning, but now? I get bored in class easily and give up on things that don’t go the way I wanted them to. I wish I hadn’t become that way.
Remember to keep practicing piano no matter how annoying or tiring it is. Practice like your future depends on it, because it actually does. Time has flown by so fast - I’m already in grade 10! (I still haven’t passed RCM 9, which is something I must have if I want to major in music at university.)
Time passes quicker than you think, and I’m starting to feel like the pressure is becoming even harder to bear. Over the years, I’ve realized my heart isn’t in math or sciences anymore; I’ve grown to love the arts much more. English, socials, music, and visual arts make me feel alive. Recognizing this passion has shown me who I am deep down. So keep going, even when it’s hard. You’ll overcome whatever challenges there are.
With love,
Your future self
