Flash of Light

It was as quick as watching a car drive by, a flash of light. Before I could even fully process it myself, I was in high school. It was just yesterday that I came to Canada, just like yesterday when I stepped foot into an unfamiliar classroom with people I had never seen, and just like yesterday that I made my first friend in elementary school. I remember being nervous of my surroundings, but glad that I got the chance to be here. But now, it is nothing more than a memory; a memory that will be stuck with me for the rest of my life.

I remember standing outside of my 3rd grade classroom during recess, seeing the 6th and 7th graders around school and being envious of how they were so mature and adult-like. I remember thinking that high school was something in the distant future, something I had to wait an eternity to finally experience. I remember thinking that my elementary school years were everything. Yet like a flash of light, it became a faraway memory. What I had viewed as my ‘entire world’ had passed in what seemed like a few seconds. I had grown up. I was no longer a child, I was instead a teenager.

I often lie on my bed and think about the past, filled with a sense of sadness resonating in my heart. Feeling as if a wave of cold water splashed over me. Whenever I look at the photos taken years ago, a sense of nostalgia fills my mind. These experiences and memories have shaped who I am, and I feel fulfilled that I was able to experience them.
